Funkwerks to start selling small bottles next month

by Josie Sexton

Three-year-old Fort Collins craft brewery Funkwerks has made a name for itself in Colorado, Nebraska and Arizona with Saison-style beers sold in 750 milliliter bottles. Now Colorado fans of the brewery’s two original flagships, Saison and Tropic King, can look forward to four-packs of those beers, sold in smaller 330 ml bottles.

The new packaging will debut in late August and is part of a larger effort on the brewery’s part to maintain freshness once the beer hits the market, said co-owner Brad Lincoln.

Funkwerks has also started selling beer in half-barrels and half-cases of the larger bottles.

For now, distribution of the four-packs will be limited to Colorado. Lincoln said distribution to Nebraska and Arizona, as well as more varieties in small bottles, will eventually follow.

Funkwerks opened in 2009 and has since won gold medals for Saison and Deceit at the Great American Beer Festival, and a silver medal for Deceit at the World Beer Cup.

The new four-packs will be sold in liquor stores by the end of August, for $10.99 each.
