UPDATE: Authorities ID man killed while chasing dog on I-25

A 39-year-old Tennessee man was struck and killed by a semi truck after chasing a dog into traffic on Interstate 25 south of Harmony Road on Sunday.

The man was riding in a 2013 Toyota pickup with a female driver when there was a dispute, and the driver pulled over on northbound I-25 around 5:30 p.m., according to the Colorado State Patrol.

When the vehicle was pulled over, a dog jumped from the car and the man — trying to retrieve the dog — chased it into traffic. A Walmart semi struck and killed both the man and the dog.

The semi driver, a 69-year-old Pueblo man, was not injured.

The driver of the Toyota, a 37-year-old woman from Nevada, was transported to the hospital, according to CSP.

The crash prompted the shutdown of northbound I-25. One lane was reopened at the Windsor exit about 7:25 p.m. As of 8:30 p.m., the other lane remained closed.

CSP is asking any witnesses of the crash to call the CSP tipline, *CSP (*277).
