Fort Collins man in custody after reported stabbing in Laporte

The detention pond in Laporte  where a 32-year-old Fort Collins man wrecked a car after allegedly stabbing another male early Saturday morning.

A Fort Collins man was arrested Saturday morning after he allegedly stabbed another man in Laporte and then crashed a vehicle into a nearby pond. 

Larimer County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a reported stabbing about 4:41 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Overland Trail and Larimer County Road 54G. Deputies found a man with a non-life threatening cut and a woman, whom the suspect knew, who had been physically assaulted, the Larimer County Sheriff's Office wrote in a news release.

The suspect, 32-year-old Brian Dennehy, had left the area in a vehicle with another woman. Deputies later located Dennehy near the intersection of Taft Hill Road and CR 54G, where he wrecked the vehicle in a nearby pond. 

Dennehy was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault, third-degree assault, domestic violence, driving while under the influence of alcohol and reckless driving.

Both the woman who was assaulted and the woman who was in the car with Dennehy were taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

Colorado State Patrol is conducting the ongoing investigation. The Larimer County Dive Team and Emergency Services assisted in the removal of the submerged vehicle Saturday morning.
