UPDATE 8/15: No criminal charges in 4-year-old's drowning death

The Larimer County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a 4-year-old Colorado Springs boy, who was pulled unresponsive from a pool at a Fort Collins motel over the weekend.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the Rodeway Inn at 3836 E. Mulberry St. around 9:20 p.m. Sunday after someone pulled 4-year-old Gabriel Ibarra from the swimming pool.

A staff member and one of his parents were performing CPR when emergency personnel arrived on the scene.

The boy was first taken to a local hospital before being flown to Children's Hospital in Aurora. He never regained consciousness and died early Tuesday morning.

The Larimer County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy Tuesday morning and determined Ibarra drowned and suffered an anoxic brain injury, which occurs when the brain does not get enough oxygen.

The sheriff's office is investigating the death, which is typical in this type of case.
