U.S. 34, which has been closed to the public through the Big Thompson Canyon all winter, is temporarily re-opening for Easter weekend.

From 4 p.m. Saturday to 8:30 a.m. Monday, single-direction pilot cars will lead traffic through the area. The road leads to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park.

It has been closed all winter as CDOT's contractor works to make the road and its bridges more resistant to flood damage. The road will reopen to the public just before Memorial Day.

The Colorado Department of Transportation recently announced plans to close it again next winter, which has sparked ire from residents impacted by the closure.
