New Belgium’s iconic Fat Tire amber ale is getting a companion.

Colorado’s largest craft brewer announced it will release Fat Tire Belgian White this August to go with its trademark beer and all-time best seller. The new beer is scheduled to be a year-round release available in cans, bottles and on tap.

“Fat Tire Belgian White captures the spirit and flavor of a truly authentic Belgian White beer,” said New Belgium’s Belgian-born brewmaster Peter Bouckaert in a written statement.

The new 5.2-percent alcohol by volume beer is brewed in the same style as popular wheat beers Blue Moon and Shock Top — which were both also developed in Colorado.

Fat Tire Belgian White is an unfiltered wheat beer brewed with Seville orange peel and ground coriander sourced from Old Town Spice Shop in Fort Collins.

“The spices are freshly ground less than a mile from our brewery,” Bouckaert said. “This gives the beer a fuller, fresher flavor and aroma resulting in a very drinkable Belgian White beer with just the right amount of complexity.”

New Belgium recently discontinued other wheat beers Snapshot Wheat and Mothership Wit at the end of last year. The filtered Sunshine Wheat remains a year-round offering.

Fat Tire amber ale was one of the original beers produced by New Belgium when it launched 26 years ago out of a Fort Collins basement.

Last year, New Belgium released a 25th anniversary pack that featured five twists on the original Fat Tire.

New Belgium — which launched a second brewery in Asheville, N.C., last year — has been busy in 2017 with its Voodoo Ranger IPA, Voodoo Ranger Imperial IPA and Dayblazer Easygoing Ale ranking as the top three true craft beer releases so far in 2017, according to Nielsen data.

The brewery is also set to complete nationwide distribution this spring.
