Severance teen killed in head-on I-25 crash

A Severance teen was killed and a Windsor teen seriously injured when their car was struck by a wrong-way driver early Thursday on Interstate 25 near Erie.

Kyle Nackos, 19, was killed in the crash when the Subaru coupe he was riding in was struck by an SUV traveling south in the northbound lane shortly before 3 a.m., according to the Weld County Coroner's Office.

Colorado State Patrol is investigating the fatal crash. Nackos was the front-seat passenger in the coupe, and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash near milepost 232.

Nash Rider, 16, was also in the Subaru. A candlelight vigil for the teens injured in the crash is planned for 6 p.m. Friday at Windsor High School.

The Greeley Tribune reports that the SUV involved was a 2004 Jeep driven by Alex Rodriguez, 25, of Fort Lupton. Rodriguez was also injured in the crash.

CSP says there have been 535 traffic deaths on Colorado roads this year.
