The Larimer County District Attorney's Office has formally charged a man accused of storming into his ex-wife's home, choking her unconscious and then continuing to attack her in the front yard while she tried to escape.

Jordan Maginness, 39, is charged with multiple felonies including attempted murder after deliberation, first-degree assault and first-degree burglary, court records indicate. He also faces a misdemeanor count of child abuse from the Oct. 16 Fort Collins incident that unfolded not far from the couple's child.

Maginness reportedly barged into his ex-wife's home through an unlocked front door that Sunday night, said, "I'm going to ... kill you," choked the woman with both hands and then pummeled her in the face on the living room floor, according to the woman's statements outlined by police in the man's arrest affidavit.

She said she was choked unconscious while she struggled to escape. Once she regained consciousness, Maginness was in their child's room, and he threatened to shoot her. The woman ran outside for help, at which point Maginness followed her, tackled her in the front yard and continued to punch her before she escaped to a neighbor's yard and called for help.

The call about the attack came in about 10 p.m., five minutes after police cleared the scene of a welfare check at the same address in the 400 block of Circle Drive in central Fort Collins. Maginness about 8:50 p.m. had driven by the woman's home and called Fort Collins police because he said she was caring for their child while intoxicated.

Court records indicate the couple was in the process of having their marriage annulled.

Maginness remains in custody at the Larimer County Jail, and bond has been set at $250,000. He is next scheduled to appear in court Nov. 17.
