Poll: Colorado favors Clinton, but it's complicated

Likely voters in Colorado favor Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump, according to a poll released Thursday morning by Colorado Mesa University and Rocky Mountain PBS.

Hillary Clinton is polling ahead of Donald Trump in Colorado per a poll released on Thursday, Sept. 22.

Clinton leads Trump 44 percent to 35 percent. However, Clinton’s lead shrinks to just a 7-percentage point advantage when all four major candidates are included (41 percent to 34 percent). Gary Johnson, according to the poll, is receiving the votes of 1 in 3 independents.

In Colorado, 21 percent of voters are unaffiliated. In Larimer, the number is 39 percent.

The poll asked about nine statewide ballot issues appearing before Colorado voters.

Medical Aid in Dying received the strongest support, with 70 percent of registered voters indicating they favored or strongly favored the measure.

It was followed by minimum wage, which received support from 58 percent of registered voters.

An initiative to make it more difficult to change the state constitution received support from 52 percent of registered voters.

The ballot issue that received the least support was ColoradoCare, which seeks to create a statewide healthcare system. Only 30 percent of registered voters indicated they would support the measure.

In the race for U.S. Senate, Democratic incumbent Michael Bennet leads Republican Darryl Glenn by 13 percentage points, 45 percent to 32 percent, among likely voters.

The poll was generated with responses from 540 Colorado registered voters, including 172 Democrats, 174 Republicans and 154 Independents. It was conducted Sept. 14-18. Interviews were completed over the phone and online.
