Cyclist seriously injured after bike vs. car crash in Fort Collins

A cyclist was seriously injured after being struck by a car Friday evening at the intersection of Lemay Avenue and Carpenter Road.

A cyclist was seriously injured after he reportedly rode through a red light and was hit by a vehicle Friday night in south Fort Collins.

The crash happened about 10:53 p.m. at the intersection of Lemay Avenue and Carpenter Road. Fort Collins police say the cyclist was riding north on Lemay Avenue and entered the intersection on a red light. That's when an eastbound 2004 Buick sedan entered the intersection with a green light and smashed into the cyclist.

The cyclist was transported to Medical Center of the Rockies with serious injuries. Police are still working to identify the man and only know his first name is Mike, Sgt. Matt Johnson said Saturday afternoon. The driver of the sedan, 24-year-old Alyssa Hayes, was not injured.

Police do not believe that alcohol or speed contributed to the wreck. The intersection was closed for about four hours while police processed the scene.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about Mike's identity or the crash is asked to contact Officer Drew Jurkofsky at 970-416-2224.
