Update, 3:30 p.m.: Northbound Interstate 25 is open in Wellington to the Wyoming state line.

Original story: Northbound Interstate 25 is closed near Wellington due to high winds.

The road is closed at exit 278, and passenger vehicle traffic is being directed onto the frontage road next to the exit, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Passenger cars are able to use the east frontage road and re-enter I-25 at Owl Canyon, according to Colorado State Patrol.

Low-profile commercial vehicles are allowed through-access, as well. However, all other commercial vehicles will be turned around or remain at the closure until it reopens. They will be detoured south on the frontage road, routed back to I-25 from Wellington and staged behind a closure at Owl Canyon, according to CSP.

U.S. Highway 287 is still open.

As of 1:45 p.m., winds in Wyoming around mile marker 3 were gusting at 70 mph but were projected to slow later in the afternoon. CSP anticipates opening the road by 2:15 p.m.

In Fort Collins, forecasters have predicted a warm and breezy day. The high temperature will be around 58 degrees, and north winds will blow 10 to 17 mph with gusts as high as 26 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
