Your guide to BandSwap: Who and where

Stacy Nick
The Coloradoan

SpokesBUZZ's annual BandSwap triumphantly returns from its cross-country tour this weekend, and it has brought along some new friends.

As part of the program's Homecoming Weekend, local bands — including Stella Luce, Post Paradise and The Deadwood Saints — will perform shows with bands from cities across the nation. The program gives audiences the chance to not only catch some of their favorite local acts but discover some new touring bands as well.

This year's genres span from metal and noise rock to Cajun and country to indie-rock and indie-pop. Here's the Coloradoan's guide to making a new musical match:

Lords of the Trident

Self-dubbed the "most metal band on Earth," the Lords of the Trident are unlike anything most music fans have ever seen before. Hailing from the land of cheese, the Madison, Wisconsin, group's live show is like a night at Medieval Times set to music. Heavily influenced by acts like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, a LoT show often includes epic battles waged on stage and the knighting of audience members.

See them: Lords of the Trident will perform along with Denver band Izcalli and Fort Collins acts Stella Luce and Post Paradise beginning at 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Hodi's Half Note, 167 N. College Ave., Fort Collins. $10; doors open at 8. This is an 18-and-older show.

Jordan Igoe

Fans of acts like Patti Fiasco will want to check out this alt-country singer-songwriter out of Charleston, South Carolina. Drawing from old- and new-school sounds, Igoe's vocals call to mind Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn, while her songwriting is more Lone Bellow and Shovels & Rope.

See her: Jordan Igoe will perform with Fort Collins folk-rockers Ambassador Wolf from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at The Powerhouse Energy Campus, 430 N. College Ave., Fort Collins. Free. All-ages show.

Lewi Longmire & the Left Coast Roasters

This Portland, Oregon, roots-rock band features Lewi Longmire, who plays a dizzying number of instruments including guitar, lap and pedal steel guitar, piano, mandolin, banjo, accordion, drums and trumpet. The group's BandSwap show will include an open jam session with Longmire.

See them: Lewi Longmire & the Left Coast Roasters will perform with local bands The Deadwood Saints and Pandas & People from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at Avogadro's Number, 605 S. Mason St., Fort Collins. Free (pass-the-hat donation). All-ages show.

Bonsoir, Catin

This Cajun sextet out of Lafayette, Louisiana, brings a unique mix of folk, swamp pop, honky tonk and blues rock. In addition to original songs, the band performs an eclectic mix of songs learned from archival music of the 1930s and 1940s and World War II dance hall-era hits.

See them: Bonsoir, Catin will perform along with Lewi Longmire & the Left Coast Roasters as well as local bands The Deadwood Saints and Pandas & People from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at Avogadro's Number, 605 S. Mason St., Fort Collins. Free (pass-the-hat donation). All-ages show.

k i d s

A noise-art band from Athens, Georgia, k i d s has a lush, dream pop quality. Fans of indie-pop, reverb and new-school doo wop will want to make sure to check these guys out.

See them: k i d s will perform along with Fort Collins duo Ginger Whale from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at the Downtown Artery, 252 Linden St. Fort Collins. Free. All-ages show.

Phin

Nashville, Tennessee, indie rockers Phin cites influences including Sam Cooke, Cold War Kids and MGMT. Named for Church of the Nazarene founder Dr. Phineas Bresee, the group met through the Nazarene Church and sees its music as a reflection of their faith and their relationship with God.

See them: Phin will perform with Fort Collins bands Shatterproof and Winchester Holiday beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, Hodi's Half Note, 167 N. College Ave., Fort Collins. $10. All-ages show.

The LoLos

Listeners of Chico, California, indie-pop act The LoLos will hear everything from soul to blues to Americana (as well as the occasional circus march). The band never takes itself too seriously and that makes for a genuinely fun show.

See them: The LoLos will perform with Phin and Fort Collins bands Shatterproof and Winchester Holiday beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at Hodi's Half Note, 167 N. College Ave., Fort Collins. $10. All-ages show.
