A 74-year-old Wellington woman was fatally injured Saturday when an ATV she was riding on crashed into an irrigation ditch filled with water in rural Larimer County northwest of Fort Collins.

Emergency crews were called around noon Saturday to 3310 Larimer County Road 80 on a report of a woman who was injured after her ATV went into the water, said Colorado State Patrol Cpl. Heather Cobler. That area is approximately 10 miles northeast of Livermore and 15 miles northwest of Wellington.

The woman, whose name has not yet been released pending next-of-kin notification, was treated by emergency crews and transported by AirLink helicopter to Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland where she was pronounced dead early Saturday afternoon.

It was not immediately clear what caused the ATV to go into the water in the irrigation ditch, and the investigation is ongoing, Cobler said.

Colorado State Patrol hadn't yet released her name, as of Sunday afternoon.
