The race for the Coloradoan Cup close after fall season
Through the fall high school sports season, Resurrection Christian is on track to repeat for the Coloradoan Cup.
The Cougars are in the lead, with 144 points after the fall season.
In its third year of existence, the Coloradoan Cup will be presented to the high school in the Coloradoan's coverage area that accumulates the most points based on athletic achievements throughout the 2015-16 school year. Fossil Ridge won the inaugural trophy, and Resurrection won in 2014-15.
Currently in second place is Fort Collins with 120 points. Heritage Christian is third with 100, Fossil Ridge is fourth with 91, Windsor is fifth with 77, Rocky Mountain is sixth at 61, Liberty Common is seventh at 36 and Poudre is eighth at 28.
Eight sports were scored in the fall, with boys and girls cross-country counted as separate sports. Gymnastics and field hockey aren't competed by a majority of schools and don't earn points. The formula is weighted to reward postseason performances.

FORMULA FOR FAIRNESS
To give smaller schools a fair chance of success, we offer the following formula:
A(B) = 8
A = Total number of sports offered by a given school
X(B) = Total adjusted value for a given school
X = Total points awarded to a given school during the school year
*No lacrosse, field hockey, girls golf, ice hockey or gymnastics are scored because half or more of the local schools don't field a team.
