The 59-year-old Fort Collins cyclist who was struck by a dump truck June 26 succumbed to his injuries and died Sunday morning.

Steve Studt died from multiple blunt injuries at the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland. He had been in critical condition there since the crash on Larimer County Road 36E — also known as Kechter Road — with a Freightliner dump truck.

The truck was traveling in the same direction and attempted to pass Studt in the eastbound lane, but oncoming vehicles caused the driver, Jose Pinon, to move back into the westbound lane. Pinon collided with Studt, who was thrown beneath the truck's rear tires.

As of Monday, no charges had been filed against Pinon, though Colorado State Patrol spokesman Sgt. Rob Madden said they will most likely come in the next few days.

The investigation is still ongoing, so witnesses of the crash are asked to call Trooper Dusty Kraft at 303-239-4301 with any information.

Bruce Henderson, president of Bike Fort Collins, said the cycling organization is planning a ghost bike ceremony for Studt. A date has not yet been set.
