Fort Collins gas prices dip below $2

Gas prices have fallen below $2 per gallon at some Fort Collins fueling stations.

At the corner of Mulberry Street and Riverside Avenue, two gas stations have advertised prices of $1.91 and $1.95 for regular unleaded fuel.

Gas prices in Northern Colorado have steadily declined since September, when the average price of regular gas began dropping from $3.66 per gallon.

The average price of fuel in Fort Collins is on par with the rest of the state, averaging about $2.55 per gallon, according to AAA. However, AAA's average did not include updated prices for the two Fort Collins locations with gas under $2 per gallon.

Colorado State University professor of finance John Elder said earlier this month that the decline in gas prices is likely temporary, and he expects oil prices to return to $100 per barrel within the next year.

Nationwide, Missouri has the lowest gas prices, averaging $2.25 per gallon, while Hawaii ranked most expensive, at $3.70, according to AAA.
