Larimer vehicular homicide suspect arrested in Wisconsin
A Larimer County man charged with vehicular homicide for a fatal crash skipped his February sentencing but was arrested recently in Wisconsin.
Nathaniel Holt, 52, of Livermore, reportedly lost control of a 1999 Toyota 4Runner while driving west on Red Mountain Granite Canyon Road, northwest of Fort Collins, last June. The SUV rolled about 3 miles from U.S. Highway 287, killing 47-year-old Samuel Vasquez, of Fort Collins, Colorado State Patrol said previously.
Holt suffered serious injuries in the rollover crash and was flown by helicopter to Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland. He was arrested days later and pleaded guilty in December to vehicular homicide and felony menacing — class 4 and class 5 felonies, respectively.
Holt was scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 9, but he failed to appear, court records show.
Jail reports indicate he was arrested Feb. 20 in Madison, Wisconsin for failure to comply with bond conditions on the case. He has since been transferred back to Larimer County and is being held on $15,000 cash bond. Sentencing has been rescheduled for April 13.
Additional details about what prompted his arrest in Wisconsin were not immediately available. Court records in the vehicular homicide case remain sealed under judicial order.
Holt had been charged with 12 separate counts including reckless driving, failure to report an accident and reckless endangerment, but those charges were dismissed as part of the plea deal. State patrol said he crashed through a fence about 2 miles from the fatal rollover before picking up two passengers — Vasquez, whom Holt knew, and a 19-year-old from Loveland, whose relationship to the other passengers has not been publicly released.
